We are currently hiring for the position of Volunteer Coordinator.

Start Date: August 4, 2026

End Date: November 13, 2026

Location: Toronto (hybrid work arrangement)

Time Commitment and Remuneration

Approximately 225 hours, broken down as follows:

  • August 4 - September 18 (5-10 hours per week)
  • September 21 - October 9 (20 - 25 hours per week)
  • October 12 - 25 (full-time, festival weeks)
  • October 26 - November 13 - 20 hours of wrap up 

Fee: Five Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars $5,850+HST (as applicable). Volunteer Coordinator will receive any reimbursements for travel/parking or any out of pocket expenses in alignment with FFDN’s Expense Policy. All seasonal team members will be provided with festival tickets.

About the Role: Volunteer Coordinator 

The Volunteer Coordinator will assume responsibilities for recruitment, planning, training and supervision of all FFDN volunteers. They will manage on-site volunteer duties in coordination with FFDN’s General Manager and Senior Producer as well as any designated Front of House venue staff. This position will work closely with FFDN’s programming and administrative teams to ensure all volunteer needs are met. They will provide exceptional customer service to patrons as we welcome audiences into our venues for FFDN’s 12th annual festival.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaise with FFDN’s current roster of volunteers to welcome back returning volunteers to our festival;
  • Conduct outreach initiatives and community engagement activities to recruit new volunteers for the 2026 festival as needed;
  • Manage all FFDN Volunteers (approximately 75) on an ongoing basis, leading up to and during the festival, including maintaining and updating the volunteer database, Volgistics
  • Plan and schedule volunteer positions and shifts before and during the festival, at venues across the city. This includes communicating with FFDN staff to ensure all departmental needs are being met;
  • Develop and facilitate Volunteer Orientation sessions, as well as planning and leading training for Team Leaders;
  • Support Front of House Managers with supervision and leadership of volunteers, as needed;
  • Supervise volunteers on-site at all FFDN events and activities (including: Outdoor site-specific performances, pop-up events, Artist Talks/Panel Discussions, etc.);
  • Work closely with FFDN’s General Manager to ensure volunteer compliance with on-site policies and procedures;
  • Work with the General Manager to ensure AODA compliance for all festival activities. Liaise with box office and FOH around any accessibility needs;
  • Demonstrate strong and consistent communication with all volunteers and FFDN staff through email, phone and in person on an ongoing basis;
  • Support the communication and coordination of FFDN’s Volunteer Newsletter;
  • Liaise with Festival Coordinator around volunteer t-shirts and hospitality;
  • Support on-site set up of events, including checking in volunteers, orientation and take-down post events.
  • Track volunteers regarding VAACT eligibility, liaise process with VAACT, reporting and submitting volunteer stamps

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Leadership experience in volunteer management/performing arts/events management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Very well organized and detail oriented, with ability to multitask
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude and adaptable personality - ability to problem solve, embrace ​flexibility ​and ​versatility, ​while ​working ​in ​a high-paced, evolving environment
  • Knowledge of the Toronto downtown core is an asset
  • Experience using a volunteer database is an asset
